The Rum Dad website was created by us, his daughters, when we realized our dad knows way too much about rum. He must have gotten bored when we moved out of the house. He found a new hobby and suddenly became fascinated with rum. He bought books on rum to learn about its history. He kept a running list of all the rums he tried.  Every vacation had to include at least one stop to find local rum. (Such as a family trip to Ireland where he tracked down the only rum distillery in the country, drove to two different warehouses, and bought their last available bottle.) He started using words like "viscosity" and "woody" when describing rum. Once, dad went to a store to find a new rum to try, but he discovered he had already tried all the store had in stock. So he started making recommendations to the liquor store owner. Things got out of hand when he found there was no official ranking system for rum. He developed his own and started keeping an excel spreadsheet to rank rum as he sampled it. Clearly our dad needed an outlet for his interest. Pretty soon we were going to have to listen to long, boring lectures on why this rum was better than that. To save ourselves, we created this site where Dad can post all the "interesting" information on rum that he wants.
